2 DAYS HMONG & KHMU HILL TRIBE TREK WITH ELEPHANT SANCTUARY EXPERIENCE 🐘 | TR-01

Day 01 – Longhut Trail Trek & Khmu Homestay 

(Lunch / Dinner)

Begin your adventure with a transfer at 8:30 AM to the starting point of the renowned Longhut Trail, one of the most scenic routes in the mountains surrounding Luang Prabang.

Set in the foothills of steep, jungle covered mountains, the trail offers spectacular panoramic views over Luang Prabang and the majestic Mekong River.

The trek begins in Huanok Village and follows a rewarding and sometimes technical path through canyons, forested hillsides, remote villages, and small lakes.

• Distance:      16 km

• Duration:      Approximately 6 hours including breaks

• Difficulty:      Medium to difficult

• Note:      During wet conditions, trails can be more challenging

By late afternoon, we arrive at a traditional Khmu village for an authentic homestay experience. You'll enjoy a freshly prepared dinner cooked by your guide and spend the evening exploring the village. You may choose to share a drink with local villagers or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. This is a rare opportunity to experience daily life as mountain communities have for generations.

Day 02 – Trek to Tad Sae Waterfalls & Elephant Sanctuary (Breakfast / Lunch)

After breakfast, we continue our journey with a 13 km trek (approximately 5 hours) through rice fields and forest landscapes. We climb toward a Hmong village perched on the hillside, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

We descend to the riverside village of Ban Houay Yen, where you will board a local boat for a relaxing cruise along the Nam Khan River to the beautiful Tad Sae Waterfalls (seasonal).

Enjoy lunch at the Elephant Village restaurant. 

After your trek, you may cool off in the Elephant Village swimming pool.

You will then take a local boat to visit the Elephant Sanctuary Camp. Here you may feed and gently interact with the elephants. Riding is strictly not permitted, in line with ethical and responsible tourism practices.

Return to Luang Prabang by vehicle in the afternoon.

Important Note: Tad Sae Waterfalls may have low water levels or may be dry between approximately February and July. In such cases, the waterfall visit may be adjusted or omitted.
